The ancient Celtic festival of Samhain is the origin of most Halloween traditions, from the costumes & trick or treating to the Jack O'Lantern. While other Celtic cultures let Samhain fall by the wayside, the Irish preserved the mythology and customs throughout the millenia, and we still do.
